From the Owner
As I look back on 40 years of Quality Mechanical Contractors, I recall the desire for independence and the freedom to set my own course. The foundation was established after years of working alongside my father as a boilermaker and working in an ASME code shop. The move from being an employee to being a business owner seemed like the natural course of action. QMC was started due to the influence and trade skills, such as welding, pipe fitting and rigging, shared during those early years in the industry.
One of those mentors believed in my abilities enough to finance QMC’s first truck and welder. The beginning months I worked on heavy equipment, dump trucks, and concrete trucks. My breakthrough into mechanical piping was brought to the table by a lifelong friend, Randy Kimrey. He recommended QMC to a local factory to perform some steam piping and mechanical work. With that experience and additional knowledge, I was able to venture out to more textile plants in the Burlington area.
The next few years brought growth, and as I look back, I can see God’s guiding hand. QMC never missed payday for three years, but with the expansion came cash flow difficulties. These challenges caused a reversal of fortune and came close to costing me my dream. Thanks to a lot of prayers, a faithful secretary, and vendors who were patient and understanding, we were able to withstand and salvage the company. The company continued to grow as we were able to offer customers service in mechanical piping, commercial plumbing, ASME code repairs, electrical, rigging, millwright, and a manufacturing shop.
Good employees from the field to the office have set our course for success. I hope QMC continues to be a successful company for another 40 years.
Barry W. Lowe
